Downtown Residents Clean Up

The Downtown Youngstown Residents Council held their first downtown cleanup up on Saturday, April 5th. Despite the cold weather, residents donned bags, gloves and pickers provided by the City of Youngstown and collected a half a dozen bags of trash (much of which had accumulated over the winter).

Increasing trash and recycling receptacles (as well as pick-up) is an issue for downtown and one in which the group hopes address moving forward. Thanks to all who came out to lend a hand.

Downtown Residents Council Holds First Meeting

On Monday, March 31st, the Downtown Youngstown Residents Council held their first meeting at the main public library. Residents and supporters discussed how they plan to organize themselves and what issues and projects they'd like to address. A number of different issues were raised including better recycling and trash plans; loitering and smoking issues; doing an inventory of minor infrastructure issues that need addressed by the city; downtown marketing; and creating opportunities to connect residents and stakeholders. The group also set their first project date, a cleanup on Saturday, April 5th at 11am.

The group is open to residents as well as friends of the downtown. Meetings are held the last Monday of each month (6:30pm) at a different downtown venue. To stay connected, follow the group on Facebook (here) or send an email to drcyoungstown@gmail.com to subscribe to their contact list.
